Qilin (麒麟) is a Chinese imaginary animal and a legendary animal that is considered a symbol of a peaceful world.

The 'Kirin Lion Dance', in which people dress up as giraffes and dance, has been handed down for about 400 years since the Edo period.

It can be found every year at each village shrine in eastern Tottori Prefecture (Inaba, 因幡) and western Hokutan, Hyogo Prefecture (Tajima, 但馬), and is still loved as an event that brings happiness to people.

Approximately 150 villages in the Tottori region dance throughout the four seasons, focusing on shrine events held in spring and fall.

Tottori's Inaba/Tajima Kirin Lion Dance was designated as an important intangible folk cultural property of Japan in 2020.
